Focus on the FIGO Congress Scientific Programme
The programme for the FIGO World Congress will provide a balance between current developments in the major subspecialties (Maternal & Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Medicine, Gynaecological Oncology, Urogynaecology and Sexual & Reproductive Health) and the practical implications of providing health care to women in high- and low-resource settings. Membership of the Scientific Programme Committee includes representatives of international subspecialty organisations and we have also consulted the chairmen of FIGO subspecialty committees and working groups, so that delegates will have access to current developments in all of these areas. An innovative feature of the programme will be the transmission of live surgery sessions from European hospitals. New clinical guidelines will be presented by representatives of FIGO, WHO and other global non-governmental organisations. There has been extensive communication with national and international societies in obstetrics and gynaecology and many of these organisations will be presenting sessions dedicated to the clinical problems which are important in their own parts of the world. More than 1700 abstracts have been accepted for oral or poster presentation, so that the Congress will provide a major opportunity for the exchange of ideas between individuals from around the world.
Inclusion in the Congress programme does not imply endorsement by FIGO and, with the exception of direct statements or declarations specifically initiated by FIGO, statements made during the Congress represent the opinions of the speakers themselves.
